Massive Publisher Update!!

Today we are proud to unveil TTG CE2 Publisher 1.1. This update is massive, and brings the publisher to full feature parity with the Highslide gallery. If you've been holding off on purchasing the publisher, this is the update you've been waiting for.

The TTG CE2 Highslide Gallery 4.2.2 update corresponds to the publisher release, and allows users to take advantage of all the added functionality. And because it's the holidays, and the world is ending, and because we love you, TTG CE2 Highslide Gallery is now bundled with TTG CE2 Photoswipe Gallery. This means that TTG CE2 Photoswipe Gallery users now have access to the Highslide gallery for free!

To get at the updates, look for notifications in your email or lookup your order from the sidebar of this page. If purchasing TTG CE2 Publisher for the first time, you will find it in the shop.

The headlining items are:

Metadata support

Publisher galleries now offer support for image headings and captions, metadata plates in the thumbnail grid, and per-item pricing from metadata for cart-enabled galleries.

Big thanks for Jeffrey Friedl here for allowing us access to his token library for handling metadata in his export plugins. This allowed us to implement very robust support for metadata in a relatively short amount of time. A side benefit is that users already familiar with Jeffrey's many excellent export plugins can now work with metadata using a familiar vocabulary when publishing TTG galleries. When creating a gallery template in TTG CE2 Highslide Gallery, look for this control group at the bottom of the Output Settings pane:

Metadata Token Setup

You can jump directly from the control set to our complete documentation, so it should be fairly easy getting to grips.

Set Username/Password When Publishing

In previous versions, username and password for protected galleries could only be set at template level, making the login the same for all galleries running from that template. No more! Login credentials may now be set/changed from within the album settings for each gallery at time of publishing.

Better Handling of Image Renditions

The publisher is now much better at creating and naming image renditions. We have much more under-the-hood control for implementing rendition-based features, and the publisher now offers better handling of image file names as well.

Color Labels & Image Downloads

The publisher now supports color labels and Hi-res Image Downloads. The publisher will also create the downloadable renditions for you, should you like, with dedicated controls for image height, width and quality of downloadable renditions.

Update Metadata Only

This new feature is a massive time-saver. When enabled, re-publishing a gallery whose image renditions have not changed will push other changes upstream without recreating the image files. This allows you to update galleries with new metadata, updated templates, etc. without having to wait for all of the image renditions to be regenerated and uploaded.

Publisher Changelog

* metadata support
* colour labels
* guest username/password in album settings
* tabbed album settings
* preserve underscores in slugs
* toggle to preserve case in slugs (set in Publisher settings)
* toggle to update metadata only (set in Publisher settings)

* quality set per rendition

Highslide Changelog

* When pagination is enabled, the current page number is no longer hyperlinked.
* Fixed bug in page number padding.
* Publisher: Support for image Headings and Captions.
* Publisher: Support for Color Labels.
* Publisher: Support for image Downloading.
* Publisher: Support for Metadata Plates / Cell Numbers on the thumbnail grid.
* Publisher: Support for per-item pricing from metadata.
* Publisher: Guest user and password can now be set from within the publisher for each gallery (i.e. login and password no longer dependent upon the template).
* Publisher: Fixed support for permalinks.

Now what?!

TTG CE2 Publisher 1.1 is a major milestone for the larger world of TTG. This puts the publisher at full feature support for the Highslide gallery, and now that we have our pieces all in place, the next step will be to begin publisher integration in our other galleries. I'm going to be traveling over the holidays, but will be diving into TTG CE2 Horizon immediately upon my return to add publisher support there, with the Client Response Gallery to follow.

Of course, we will continue to improve the publisher with stability and feature improvements, and perhaps try to add support for some of the more advanced uses of Jeffrey Friedl's metadata tokens. But with the publisher having reached this milestone, Ben will also be turning some of his attention back to TTG Cart. We've begun to brainstorm for the next major version of the cart -- not incremental improvements, but a complete teardown and rebuilding of the product to improve upon existing features, and to hopefully build in new features that users have been asking for. So if there's something you'd like to see in the next iteration of the shopping cart, now is your chance to be heard. Tell us what you want in the community forum. Of course, we can't promise to implement every request. But we will evaluate all suggestions and requests in an effort to determine which are realistically viable for what we intend to build.

Happy holidays to all!!

    Hi Matt,

    Great news!

    Do you have a timescale as to when Stage CE2 be Publisher Enabled?

        As always, short and to the point Matt! But, as I have just completed a makeover of all my Galleries from Highslide to Stage with Galleria, a little disappointing…

        Looks like I’m on a re-build campaign again, I know the end result will be worth it though when they are all publisher aligned and the bonus is I can start right now, without having to wait for Stage…Sweet and Sour :o)

        Merry Christmas Matt – loving your work!

    Is there any use in hoping that Photoswipe will be Publisher enabled? 😉

    • Matt says:

      Yes, but not for a while. I have schemes in mind how to address the Highslide vs. Photoswipe disparity once and for all. For the time being, though, if you want to use the publisher then I advise using the Highslide gallery.
