The auto index has a handful of advanced options buried in code. To get at these features, you will need a plain text-editor.
To get at these options, open the file
/lib/autoindex/autoindex-view.php using your text-editor. Near the head of the script, you fill see these lines:
$reverseit = false; // change to true if you'd like the album displayed in reverse order $shuffleit = false; // change to true if you'd like the album displayed in shuffled order $popit = false; // open targets in a new browser tab/window

Will cause the gallery index to list albums in random order. The display order will be randomized on every page load.
Will cause the gallery index to open albums in a new browser tab or window, depending on the visitor's browser preferences.
